Study Abroad Scholarships - UK


Indians are one of the largest international student communities in the United Kingdom. The UK has a global reputation for academic excellence. The students can also visit StudyUK section of the British Council Website to search for courses, institutions and scholarships. If you aspire to study in UK and cannot afford full tuition and living expenses, here are a few scholarships offered to Indian Students for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the UK. 

1) Chevening:

All Chevening applicants must submit their education documents, references, and one unconditional UK university offer. The deadlines for these required documents are in the Chevening application timeline. If you are conditionally selected for a Chevening Scholarship, it is essential that you submit these documents in order to remain in the process.
 
2) University of Dundee:
 
The university provides Vice Chancellor’s South Asia Scholarship of  £4,000 per year to Indian students. The university also offers Global Excellence Scholarship of 6000 pounds per year to Indian students. Both scholarships are given to students with distinguished academic record.

Eligibility: Must have applied and gave received an offer from the university for
UG course.
 
3) Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OCSI) Scholarships:
 
The OCSI is a study-abroad UG scholarship for Indian students run by New Delhi-based non-profit alumni organisation. This scholarship is available to Indian students who aspire to study at Oxford or Cambridge University. Awarded 2 lakhs.

Eligibility: It is a merit-based scholarship for Indian citizens who enroll in any part-time or full-time program at Cambridge or Oxford University, or any of their affiliated colleges. The candidate should be under 30 years on September 1 of the year of application. The application is online.
 
4) Rhodes Scholarship for Oxford University:
 
The scholarship is only for students admitted to Oxford University. The Rhodes scholarship covers all expenses from college fees to airfares & personal expense as well. Rhodes Scholarship is one of the best options in the UK for Indian students who are young & dynamic.

Eligibility: Requires exceptional academic and leadership skills.
 
5) University of Stirling Scholarship:
 
International undergraduate scholarship is offered to full-time Indian students of £2000 per year over four years on getting admission in above University. Similarly GEMS International Undergraduate Scholarship is offered to eligible students £2,000 per year (£8,000 over four years) towards the payment of annual fees.
 
6) University of Leicester:
 
The university offers “Citizens of Change 100 Scholarship”. Gets a waiver of 50% in fees. All you have to do is record a video of 60 seconds which depicts the change you want to bring in the society in sectors like health, crime or climate. Value £3,000 or £5,000 per year.

Eligibility: Any UG student with offer from the university can apply through their website.
 
6) University of Bristol Think Big undergraduate award:
 
Scholarship awards for undergraduate international students valued at £6,500 and £13,000 per year which can only be used towards the cost of tuition fees in any subject.

Eligibility: Should be full-time UG student, apply through their website.
 
7) Quacquarelli Symonds Undergraduate Scholarship:
 
This scholarship is given to deserving students pursuing an undergraduate degree at a QS-ranked institution. There are a number of various undergraduate scholarships offered by QS based on courses. 
It is a merit-based scholarship with benefits up to INR 3,68,800. The candidates must be accepted by a QS-ranking accredited institution. An essay has to be submitted based on a Sustainable Development Goal and an action plan to achieve it. Shortlisted candidates would be contacted to submit the required documents. April 30 of each year is the application deadline.

8)United Kingdom Commonwealth Scholarship:
 
Commonwealth scholarship is one-year scholarship offered to the students who come from commonwealth countries. Around 25-30 slots are available. The notification comes in Oct/Sep and the candidates are required to apply online at the Ministry’s website as well as at Commonwealth Scholarships Commission’s website through EAS application system. The candidate should be below 40 years of age, competent in English and should have 60% or above in bachelors. Candidates have to take IELTS. It covers tuition fees, exam fees and other allowances.
