Combined Defence Service (CDS) Exam 2023 is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The CDS is a national-level competitive exam conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit candidates who wish to begin their career in the defence forces like Army, Navy, and Air Force. This is a remarkable opportunity for graduates who wish to serve the country by joining the Indian Army, Navy, Air-force, Naval Academy, and Officers Training Academy.

EDUCATIONAL CRITERIA

IMA - Graduate from Recognized University
INA - Engineering Degree from Recognized University
AFA - Engineering Degree (Physics & Maths at 10+2) or B. Tech from Recognized University
OTA - Graduate from Recognized University

Here,

IMA stands for Indian Military Academy
INA stands for Indian Naval Academy
AFA stands for Air Force Academy
OTA stands for Officer Training Academy

CDS AGE LIMIT

The CDS age limit for all the posts is 20 years to 24.

CDS EXAM PATTERN

The exam pattern of the CDS exam is different for Officer Training Academy and Indian Naval Academy/Indian Military Academy/Indian Air Force. It is divided into two sections:

1) Written Examination

2) Intelligence & Personality Interview

The exam pattern for Indian Naval Academy/Indian Military Academy/Indian Air Force comprises 3 papers, which carry a total of 300 marks. The total duration of each exam is 2 hours.

English paper consists of 100 marks in 2 hours

General Knowledge paper consists of 100 marks in 2 hours

Elementary Mathematics paper consists of 100 marks in 2 hours 

The exam pattern for Officer Training Academy (OTA) consists of 2 subjects with a total of 200 Marks. The duration of the exam is 4 hours.

English paper consists of 100 marks in 2 hours

General Knowledge paper consists of 100 marks in 2 hours

CDS SYLLABUS

The CDS Exam Syllabus is as follows:

General Knowledge: History, Physics, Biology, Geography, Political Science, and current affairs of the last 4-5 months from the examination date.

English: Basic Grammar, Synonyms, Antonyms, Comprehension Solving, Error Spotting, Para Jumbles, etc.

Elementary Math: Natural numbers, Integers, Percentages, HCF and LCM, Geometry, Logarithms, Trigonometry, Time & distance, Statistics, Mensuration, etc.

CDS SELECTION PROCESS

The recruitment is based on four rounds.

1.   Written Exam

2.   SSB Interview/Personality Test

3.    Document Verification

4.     Medical Examination

During the training period, the selected candidates receive a fixed stipend amount of ₹ 56,100 per month. Later on the salary varies as per rank. The IMA trains cadets for Permanent Commission while and the OTA trains them for Short Service Commission.
