Roadmap to Chartered Accountancy (CA): 2026 Guide

The success of leaders like Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja has proven that the CA qualification is a powerful foundation for a global career. For 12th Standard students and graduates, here is the structured path to becoming a Chartered Accountant under the ICAI New Scheme of Education.
Stage 1: CA Foundation
The entry point for those joining after Class 12. It tests your basic aptitude in accounting and law.
- 2026 Update: Exams are now conducted thrice a year to give students more flexibility.
- Subjects: Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude, and Economics.
Stage 2: CA Intermediate
This level consists of 6 papers divided into two groups. You must complete your ICITSS (soft skills) training before moving to the next phase.
Stage 3: 2-Year Practical Training
Under the new scheme, the articleship period is 2 years. During this time, you also complete Self-Paced Online Modules (SPOM) in law and ethics.
Stage 4: CA Final
The ultimate test of your expertise. Clearing these 6 papers officially makes you a member of the ICAI.
